MorphOS going for Powermac G4 PCI towers

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Wow, incredible news.

Straight from the dev team of MorphOS, the OS of the morph aka MorphOS is soon running on old Apple “quicksilver” G4 towers. These run up to 1.8 GHz (or up to 2 GHz with special turbos), meaning, it could potentially be the fastest Amiga system in the world soon.

Already MorphOS runs on the Mac Mini, but G4 towers are so much cheaper second hand thand Mac Mini. As a matter of fact, I found a G4 “quicksilver” in a dumpster last week, I thought “hmm I should take it home if Morph-team releases MorphOS for it” but decided not to, argh!

Who is not salivating over the prospect of running the slickest and nicest looking AmigaOS-likeable AmigaOS system on the nicest designed computers, do not lie to me, I know you want one too :)

Shocking question to Hyperion: Do you plan to port AmigaOS to x86

Friday, October 30th, 2009

A user by the username cv643d have had enough of 1000+ dollar sub 1GHz AmigaOS4.x hardware and have asked Hyperion, owners and developer of AmigaOS if AmigaOS is coming to x86 at Amigaworld.net.

What will the answer be?

Yes, no, never, maybe?

Maybe ARM is the future?

Maybe AmigaOS on the cell phone is not that bad idea after all (it is maybe a way of making it more fun using a cell phone?).

Wow, post #28

Amiga inc and Hyperion are now friends again

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Wow, Hyperion and Amiga inc are not fighting anymore. Stop the press!

Hyperion Entertainment CVBA is pleased to announce that on September 30, 2009, it has reached a comprehensive settlement agreement with Amiga, Inc., Itec LLC and Amino Development Corporation, Inc., to bring all ongoing litigation and worldwide pending procedures between the parties to an end.

As part of the settlement agreement, the Amiga Parties acknowledge that Hyperion is the sole owner of AmigaOS 4 without prejudice to any third party rights.

Within the framework of the settlement agreement Hyperion is granted an exclusive, perpetual, worldwide right to AmigaOS 3.1 in order to use, develop, modify, commercialize, distribute and market AmigaOS 4.x (and subsequent versions of AmigaOS including without limitation AmigaOS 5) in any form, on any medium and for any current or future hardware platform under the exclusive trademark “AmigaOS” (Amiga operating system) and using other associated trademarks (such as the “BoingBall” logo).

Hyperion will continue development and distribution of AmigaOS 4.x (and beyond) as it has done since November of 2001.

We wish to thank our loyal customers who have supported us throughout the judicial procedures and especially the AmigaOS 4.x development team for their continued efforts and at the request of whom this official announcement was made.

As Hyperion Entertainment’s most ambitious project to date is drawing to a close in collaboration with our partners, we invite our current and prospective customers to watch this space for further updates on Hyperion’s continued efforts to revive the Amiga platform.

Amiga hardware database gets an update

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Once upon a time the leading online hardware database IMHO was Big Book Of Amiga Hardware (or simply BBOAH).

BBOAH was a great site that is often referenced to whenever someone sells some Amiga hardware on ebay or other trading places. However, the original founder of Big Book Of Amiga Hardware got in to some legal problems when he had manual scans or driver software on the page for download so he left the project which is now in the hands of some german dudes (I think).

While this would be no problem IMHO the site is slightly less funny to visit these days because of questionable design of page and english not default language (however germany rocks off course! :) ).

Amiga.resource.cx is a kick ass Amiga hardware database which have been around for as long as BBOAH and it is still the same cool site it always was with lots of info and very nice high-res images of Amiga hardware in question. I suggest you visit the site and look at the updates because the site got a few updates recently!

Download Turrican 3 Amiga sourcecode

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

I am just a simple news-bot in the Amigaworld so I do not know how genuine these files are, perhaps someone with knowledge of 68k ASM can take a look and verify these sources for Turrican 3 by Factor 5?

There is a thread on EAB about the source code for the Amiga version of Turrican 3, check it out if you like!

OS 4.1 must generate lots of cash otherwise AmigaOS will be dead in the future

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

According to Rouge, developer of AmigaOS, the “Amiga system” needs to generate lots of cash in the future, otherwise there will be no more new Amiga OS developments.

“There is no big money capital behind the current AmigaOS. The system itself must generate the income for its development. If it cannot do that, it will die. Period.”

Read the full post with interesting insight into next-gen AmigaOS on Amigaworld

He seemed to be in a bad mood, I guess he needs to use his Amiga more, “remember when computing was fun” ;)
