Have you met your new AmigaOS x86 yet? Meet AROS now

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

Finally, AROS seems to be moving in the right direction with some momentum. AROS is AmigaOS x86, or rather, “Workbench x86”, as AmigaOS is now owned by Hyperion, a company located in Belgium but with developers all around the world.

Already iMica system can be used as a kind of reference hardware. It is more or less hardware that has been tested and verified to work with AROS, you can find out the specifications or why not purchase this hardware at: http://www.clusteruk.com/

If Atom based Mini-ITX sounds to low end for you there is already a kind of sister project running called “AresOne” a Micro-ATX/ATX system that is as powerful as any high-end PC hardware is running Vista today is.

AresOne will be launched on December the first 2009, but on the site www.aresone.de the following video has been posted with some information about the project and its objective. I especially liked the fourth part of the video, “The mission”. Please watch it (you can find more iMica and AresOne videos on YouTube):

IMHO, in 10 seconds, there was more hope and vision of a future of Amiga in this video than have come out of any major Amiga company in many years.

“If Apple can do it, we can too”.

YES WE CAN!

AROS with integrated UAE update

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

AROS is a 100% 3.1 API compatible Amiga Workbench which portable to different platforms, such as x86, PPC and even 68k. It was a project started back when Commodore folded and when the future seemed non existent for AmigaOS.

AROS lacks support for running native 68k Amiga programs, something that an integrated UAE is going to solve, so that you should be able to run 68k programs in AROS just as if the program was an AROS program.

Check out latest progress of AROS with integrated UAE, and if you are brave and have some time over, why not try it out?
